What Is A Duck Dumper?
A "Duck Dumper" is someone who purchases domestic breeds of ducks or geese and sets them "free" when no longer wanted. Each year, (usually around Easter) ducklings and goslings are purchased from feed stores and then "dumped" a couple of months later when they become too messy and difficult to care for.
Typical dump sites are parks, lakes and ponds.
Most ducks don't survive 24 hours, a month at most, before becoming injured or killed!
These are domesticated animals that are used to being kept secure from predators. They are used to always having food and have never had to hunt or fight for it, as a result, they become severely malnourished in the wild. Domesticated waterfowl are prone to bumblefoot, parasites, feather issues and upper respiratory infections. When they get sick or injured, it becomes a slow and painful death. These animals don't know to stay away from roads and cars. They trust humans and some humans are animal abusers.
They have been bred for generations, making them much larger and unable to fly away from predators. In colder months, dumped waterfowl don't know how to migrate.
It is both illegal and cruel to abandon domestic animals!
